Building Learning Power
Using five key learning muscles

We aim to develop students who are confident, agile, reflective and engaged learners. This is evidenced by their willingness, independence, creativity and inspired thinking as they show initiative and take responsibility for their learning. Based on foundational Christian beliefs and values

At RJ, we believe that God's truth, as revealed in the Bible, provides guidance for every aspect of life. This truth is woven into our curriculum as a foundation for learning. Students are encouraged to thoughtfully explore and consider a personal faith in Jesus Christ. Our dedicated staff embrace their responsibility to model Christian values, knowing their influence shapes the lives of our young people. As a College, we are committed to nurturing and educating students in accordance with the doctrines and teachings of the Anglican Church Diocese of Sydney.

Building Learning Power

Learning Power @ RJ equips our students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences inside and outside the classroom that will allow them to flourish, not only in their academic studies but also in their wider lives and the relationships that they cultivate with their peers, their teachers, and beyond the College gates. By learning about the five Learning Power muscles – Relationship, Resilience, Resourcefulness, Reflectiveness and Reciprocity – we want our learners to understand how they learn and how they can become better learners.

We care about each student and provide plenty of support

RJ prides itself on a priority of nurturing each student. Our staff are dedicated to understanding each student’s needs. Teachers are very aware of the enormous impact encouragement and reinforcement can have on every student. The College’s relational approach is implemented by each staff member. Indeed, many parents comment upon the College’s positive atmosphere, wherein the students feel understood and affirmed.

Our students learn in a dynamic, stimulating environment

Self-motivation and ongoing success are essential keys for each student’s learning progress. Purposeful management of a stimulating and differentiated learning environment is a prime objective for our teachers. With a College-wide emphasis on information-processing skills, technology is an integral part of daily activities and computer usage is integrated into the various subject areas. To enhance the productive use of digital communication and resources, our modern classrooms feature interactive whiteboards with ready access to laptops and iPads (Junior School), and a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Program for Senior School students.

We have high standards for behaviour and academic work

Respect for others and a healthy pride in one’s own efforts are core elements for RJ students functioning effectively and growing in self-discipline, both in relation to their personal conduct and their application towards learning tasks. A clearly communicated ‘Student Code of Conduct’ outlines relevant guidelines. Our College also has realistic expectations for a student’s application in classroom learning activities, as well as their completion of homework, assignments and study. Through positive partnerships involving staff, students and parents, the individual student’s wellbeing and the effectiveness of the learning programs are maximised.

Interaction with parents is really important to us

RJ acknowledges parents as the ‘primary carers’ and we seek to complement the goals and aspirations they have for their children. The regular interaction between home and school is a critical factor in the growth and development of each student. Parents are encouraged to contact their child's teacher when required.

"RJ is a place to belong, where teachers go beyond academics to help the students in their overall development and lay a strong foundation for life-long lessons; whether it’s disciple, collaboration, empathy and be part of a community."
